Women's Soccer Picks Up NESCAC Win Over Bates

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's soccer team posted a four goal opening half to pick up NESCAC victory over Bates on Tuesday evening.

The Polar Bears (1-1-1, 1-1-0 NESCAC) collected their first win of the season, as well as breaking open the offensive floodgates after over 200 minutes of scoreless soccer. The Bobcats fall to 1-1-0 (0-2-0 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • Less than five minutes into action, Emily Pawlak lined up a free kick from just outside the box. The senior rang her shot off the crossbar and the ball bounced down and across the goal line.
  • Sophia Lemmer served a free kick from the left side, roughly 40 yards out, to the top of the box. The ball deflected back to Julia Patterson who turned and made a quick move before launching a right footed shot up and over the outstretched hands of Katherine Nuckols.
  • Bates nearly tallied an equalizer three minutes later as Adena Bernot fired off a similar shot to Patterson's, with the ball sailing just over the crossbar.
  • Bowdoin responded in the 23rd minute as Morgen Gallagher streaked down the right side, beating a defender, and found Lynn Farquhar on the far post with a long cross. Farquar put the ball away with a clean one-touch.
  • The Polar Bears capped the half with a final goal in the last 1:58 of play. Allie Dougel worked the ball on the right side of the box and sent a bouncing pass into the middle where Kate Morrison connected midair for the goal.
  • Two minutes into the second half Bates looked to score as Caroline Bogue bounced a shot off the crossbar, only to see the ball bounce back into play and be cleared by the Bowdoin defense.
