Women's Tennis Falls to Wesleyan in Opening Round of NESCAC Tourney

ENFIELD, Conn. - The Wesleyan University women's tennis team defeated Bowdoin 5-2 in the quarterfinals of the 2018 NESCAC Championship on Friday in a match played indoors at the Enfield Tennis Club.

The fifth-ranked and third-seeded Cardinals (12-2) advance to the NESCAC semifinals on Saturday morning against Middlebury. The 14th-ranked and sixth-seeded Polar Bears fall to 9-12 this season.

Match Highlights

  • Bowdoin's number one doubles pairing of Tess Trinka and Izzy Essi owned an early 4-3 lead against the nation's top-ranked doubles team of Eudice Chong/Victoria Yu, but the Cardinals came storming back to take an 8-4 win.
  • Tasha Christ/Sasa Jovanovic claimed a 8-3 win at #3 doubles for Bowdoin, but Wesleyan took a 8-3 win at #2 doubles to own a 2-1 lead heading to singles.
  • A trio of straight-set wins by the Cardinals put the Polar Bears away, despite the efforts of Jovanovic, who earned a point for Bowdoin at #6 with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
