Maroon Battle Back for 5-4 Upset Against Polar Bears

POMONA, Calif. – The Bowdoin women's tennis team took an early lead but could not hold off the University of Chicago in a 5-4 setback.

The Polar Bears (5-5) took a 2-1 lead after doubles, but quickly fell behind the Maroon (10-2) in singles action.

Match Highlights

  • Bowdoin captured victories at one and two doubles. The duo of Tess Trinka and Izzy Essi won 9-7, while Rachel Bercovitch and Viv Daniel went 8-6 at two.
  • The Polar Bears fell behind 3-2 after singles wrapped on courts 1-3. Essi tied the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at number four.
  • With two matches remaining, the Maroon clinched the win in three sets at five. Sasa Jovanovic battled back for a three set (6-4, 2-6, 6-2) victory at six.
