Women's Soccer Upsets Tufts and Earns NESCAC Playoff Spot

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's soccer team punched its ticket to the NESCAC Quarterfinals with a 1-0 upset victory over visiting Tufts on Tuesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears improve to 7-6-2 (3-6-1 NESCAC) after defeating the Jumbos (9-4-2, 5-3-2 NESCAC) who sit in fourth place in conference standings.

Game Highlights

  • Bowdoin held a 5-2 shot advantage in the first half, but was unable to put the ball in the net.
  • Julia Patterson nearly broke the game open in the 23rd minute with a sliding bid on a long cross. Emily Bowers came out and absorbed the close range shot.
  • Eight minutes into the second half, Kate Rusk-Kosa fired a shot that sailed just above the crossbar from outside the box.
  • In the 63rd minute, Julia Adelmann scored the game winner. A well played through ball found Adelmann who worked the end line and scored from tight. Behind the defense, Adlemann slotted the ball right as Bowers dove left.

  • Bowdoin held a 14-6 edge in shots, while the Jumbos earned a 9-4 corner kick advantage.

  • The Polar Bears secured a spot in the conference playoffs. Seeding will be determined following the conclusion of Tuesday's action. Bowdoin will play on Saturday at either Williams or Middlebury.
