Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bowdoin women's soccer team battled the number three team in the country and fell in a competitive 2-1 game to Williams on Sunday.
The Polar Bears sit at 5-6-2 (1-6-1 NESCAC), while the Ephs remain undefeated at 11-0-2 (7-0-1 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Williams took an early lead in the 9th minute. Liz Girvan cut behind a defender, near the end line, and sent a cross to the right side for Sarah Scire. Scire punched the ball into the far corner.
- With 20 seconds remaining in the half, Bowdoin tallied an equalizer. Capitalizing on a foul in Williams territory, Sophia Lemmer served the ball into the box. Beth Brown got a touch on the ball and sent it across to Aine Lawlor who put it in the back of the net.
- It only took 2:30 into the second half for the Ephs to regain the lead. Scire recovered the ball at midfield and dribbled to just outside the box where she lofted a shot over Bowdoin's Penny Rocchio.
- The Polar Bears looked for an equalizer in the 69th minute as Julia Adelmann's shot deflected off a defender before Williams goalie Olivia Barnhill tipped it wide.
By the Numbers
- Bowdoin held a 17-13 edge in shots and 4-3 corner kick advantage.
- Rocchio ended the day with six saves.
- Barnhill made four stops.
