Box Score AMHERST, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team dropped their first game of the season, a 49-45 decision at top-ranked Amherst on Saturday afternoon.
The third-ranked Polar Bears (19-1, 5-1 NESCAC) went 1-16 from three-point range in the loss to the Mammoths (20-0, 6-0 NESCAC), who win their 53rd consecutive game.
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin led 11-9 after the first quarter, and had a 10-7 rebound advantage after ten minutes. Kate Kerrigan had seven early points for the Polar Bears.
- The Mammoths pulled to within one with 6:50 left in the second quarter on a McCarthy three-pointer, and Amherst took the lead on a layup by Cam Hendricks.
- The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half, going into the locker room with the Mammoths up 23-21.
- Hannah Fox hit a triple to put Amherst up 30-25 in the third quarter, but Abby Kelly tied the game at 30 with a three-point play.
- Neither team led by more than four points in the third quarter and the Mammoths held a 36-34 lead after three.
- The fourth quarter saw six lead changes, with Bowdoin taking its final lead of the game on a three-pointer from Kerrigan, 42-40, with 4:27 to go.
- The Mammoths closed the game on a 9-3 run, however, taking the lead for good on a Hannah Fox three-pointer.
- Bowdoin had three chances to tie the score with under a minute to play, but couldn't find the equalizer.

- Amherst held Bowdoin to 36% shooting for the game and 6% from three-point range.
- The Mammoths connected on 44% of their shots and owned a slight 28-27 advantage in rebounding.
- Kate Kerrigan led all players with 15 points and nine rebounds. Abby Kelly pitched in 12 for the Polar Bears.
- Emma McCarthy and Hannah Fox had 14 points each for Amherst.
