Box Score LEWISTON, Maine – Kara Finnerty gave Bowdoin field hockey its first win of the season with a breakaway overtime goal against Bates in a 1-0 final on Wednesday evening.
The Polar Bears climb to 1-1 (1-1 NESCAC) after falling to Amherst in their season opener. The Bobcats (0-3, 0-2 NESCAC) controlled the game in regulation but remain winless.
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin's most promising scoring opportunity in regulation came on a long feed to Abby Bashaw charging into the circle. Bates' Adelae Durand came out and broke up the play before the Polar Bears could convert.
- During overtime, the two teams traded pressure through the opening minutes. Elizabeth Bennewitz thwarted a two-on-one down the right side by intercepting the centering pass from the end line and clearing it out of Bowdoin's circle.
- Finnerty scored the game's lone goal 8:03 into overtime. From midfield, Bennewitz fed Finnerty in Bates territory and the sophomore navigated around a defender for a one-on-goal. Durand dove to take away the angle and smother the shot, but Finnerty pulled the ball back and slid a shot inside the far right corner.

- Durand ended the day with one save, while Maddie Ferrucci earned her first collegiate shutout behind a four save performance.
- Bates earned seven penalty corners in the contest. Bowdoin did not execute a single corner.
- The Bobcats outshot the Polar Bears by a 15-4 margin.
