Women's Tennis Takes Down Sixth-Ranked Sagehens

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The fourth-ranked Bowdoin women's tennis team knocked off its first nationally ranked opponent of the season in a close 5-4 win against Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday afternoon. 

The Polar Bears improve to 4-0 after defeating the sixth-ranked Sagehens (8-3). Pomona-Pitzer downed Amherst  the previous day by a 7-2 margin.

Match Highlights

  • All three doubles matches were tight, but the Sagehens led 2-1 heading into singles. The duo of Pilar Giffenig and Tess Trinka picked up the point for Bowdoin at #2 with a 9-7 victory.
  • Bowdoin came back in singles play. Tasha Christ and Sasa Jovanovic earned quick points at #5 and #6 respectively. Each first-year won in straight sets, with Christ going 6-3, 6-3 and Jovanovic picking up 6-1, 6-1 results.
  • Trinka earned another point at #3 singles, battling for a 7-6, 6-3 victory.
  • Senior Joulia Likhanskaia clinched the match for the Polar Bears at #1. Likhanskaia opened with a 6-3 first set, dropped the second, and clinched the final point with a 7-5 third.
