Women's Basketball Reaches 20-Win Plateau In Regular Season Finale

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day with a 68-49 win over Connecticut College in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon in Morrell Gymnasium.

The 20th-ranked Polar Bears (20-3, 8-2 NESCAC) reach 20 wins for the eighth time in the last nine seasons under head coach Adrienne Shibles. The Camels fall to 16-8 (4-6 NESCAC) this season. The teams will learn their pairings for the NESCAC Quarterfinals which will take place next Saturday, February 18 upon the conclusion to the NESCAC regular season on Sunday.

Game Highlights

  • The Camels jumped out of the gate to an early 6-0 lead after four minutes only to see the Polar Bears answer with a 16-0 run to take command of the game.
  • Kate Kerrigan sparked the run with seven points and Sydney Hancock capped the surge with a three-pointer to push Bowdoin's lead to double figures.
  • After Conn. College trimmed the lead to six points, 16-10, Bowdoin answered with a 14-1 run that included three-pointers from Lauren Petit, Marle Curle and Abigail Kelly.
  • Bowdoin took a 31-18 lead into the break and pushed their lead to as many as 21 points in the second half as they cruised to the win.

By The Numbers

  • A dozen different players entered the scoring column for the Polar Bears, who were led by ten points from Kelly and nine points apiece from Kerrigan and Petit.
  • Kerrigan also had eight assists, six rebounds and two blocks while Sydney Hancock added five assists and a pair of three-pointers.
  • Meg Corcoran led the Camels with a dozen points and 11 rebounds.
  • Bowdoin's bench owned a 48-7 advantage in scoring and the Polar Bears finished at 45% shooting for the game while holding Conn. College to just 29%.
  • Bowdoin's five-member senior class of Curle, Hancock, Ally Silfen, Rachel Norton and Emily Campbell upped their career win total to 88 with the victory.

Up Next

  • Both teams have qualified for the NESCAC postseason and will learn their quarterfinal opponents on Sunday evening when the field is finalized.
