BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team outscored Wesleyan 17-5 in the fourth quarter to take a 58-43 victory on Friday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.

The win clinches the third seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament for the 20th-ranked Polar Bears (19-3, 7-2 NESCAC) who will host a quarterfinal on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Cardinals (7-14, 1-8 NESCAC) are eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.

Game Highlights

• The Polar Bears led 25-22 at halftime as a scrappy Wesleyan team refused to let Bowdoin pull away.
• The Cardinals scored the first four points out of halftime to briefly take a 26-25 advantage on a Maddie Bledsoe free throw two minutes into the second half.
• Bowdoin answered with a 6-0 run, including a spinning layup from Maddie Hasson, to regain the lead, only to see Wesleyan reply with a 7-0 surge to take a 36-34 edge late in the frame.
• The Polar Bears closed the third quarter on a 7-2 run, sparked by four straight points from Kate Kerrigan to take a 41-38 edge into the fourth period.
• Bowdoin took command from there, scoring the first seven points of the fourth quarter, including a three-pointer from Sydney Hancock, to push the lead to double-digits.
• The Polar Bears held Wesleyan to just 1-13 shooting in the final quarter to seal the win.

• Bowdoin shot just 31% from the field but held Wesleyan to 28% for the contest.
• The Polar Bears were led by 11 points from Marle Curle and ten points from Lauren Petit.
• Ten different players scored for Bowdoin, while Ally Silfen led the squad with ten rebounds.
• Wesleyan was led by ten points from Maddie Bledsoe and nin from  Tara Berger.
• Bowdoin's bench held a 35-8 advantage in scoring in the victory.
