Volleyball Falls to Wesleyan in NESCAC Semifinals

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Wesleyan University women's volleyball team rallied from a one-set deficit to defeat Bowdoin in the NESCAC Semifinals on Saturday, 3-1.

The Cardinals (20-5) advance to the NESCAC title match on Sunday while the Polar Bears likely end their season with a record of 15-10.

Match Highlights

  • Bowdoin was able to storm out of the gate against Wesleyan before the Cardinals gained their footing in a 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-16 victory.
  • The Polar Bears jumped to an 8-4 lead early against Wesleyan and maintained that advantage throughout the set, winning on a Danielle Abrams kill to cap the set.
  • Wesleyan dominated the second set, taking an 18-6 lead en route to deadlocking the match.
  • Bowdoin had a great opportunity to put the Cardinals on the ropes in the third set, taking a commanding 18-11 lead following a kill by Ashley Williams. But the Cardinals rolled off a stunning 14-3 run to shock the Polar Bears and take the set, 25-21, and a 2-1 overall lead.
  • Wesleyan scored the first four points of the fourth set and opened up a quick 13-5 lead. The Polar Bears couldn't recover as the Cardinals clinched the match with a 25-16 victory.
