CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team pulled away in the third quarter for an 80-60 win over MIT on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears improve to 4-0 this season with their average margin of victory being 24.5 points/game. The Engineers fall to 1-2 this season with the setback.

Game Highlights

• Bowdoin gradually built an 11-5 margin courtesy of a layup by Taylor Choate at the 6:12 mark of the opening quarter. MIT narrowed the gap to two on three occasions, the last on a pair of free throws, making the score 20-18 with 1:42 remaining.
• The Polar Bears closed the quarter on an 8-0 run, sparked by a layup from Maddie Hasson to take a 28-18 advantage.
• Bowdoin carried the momentum into the second stanza as their lead increased to 40-22 following Abby Kelly's jumper with 4:12 on the clock. Despite the deficit MIT rebounded, coming within 40-34 at halftime following a basket by Taylor V'Dovec.
• The Polar Bears put the game out of reach in the third quarter, outscoring MIT 21-11, closing the period on a 12-5 run that was capped by Petit's layup at the buzzer to take a 61-45 lead.
• The Polar Bears maintained their comfortable cushion throughout the final frame, seeing it grow to 25 (80-55) on Moira Train's trey with just under three minutes left to play.

By The Numbers

• Bowdoin ended the day with advantages in shooting percentage (51.6 – 42.6), rebounds (36-29), points in the paint (44-32), points off turnovers (20-11), and bench scoring (36-2).
• Twelve different Polar Bears scored in the win, led by Kate Kerrigan's  12 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.
• Lauren Petit and Abby Kelly scored ten points each for Bowdoin.
