Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England field hockey team scored four minutes into overtime to down visiting Bowdoin 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Polar Bears drop their second overtime game of the weekend and fall to 6-4. The Nor'Easters climb to 10-4 on the year.
Game Highlights
- The Nor'Easters held a 7-4 edge in shots in the opening half and a commanding 7-4 penalty corner advantage. Elizabeth Bennewitz preserved the clean slate with a defensive save late in the half.
- Bennewitz was later denied by a defensive save on the opposite end following a penalty corner fifteen minutes into the second half.
- Bowdoin dominated play in the second half, allowing only a pair of shots and firing off 12. The Polar Bears allowed only one corner in the final 35 minutes of regulation and earned nine penalty corners.
- On the first penalty corner of overtime, all but one Bowdoin defender was in the offensive zone. Oliva Madore managed a quick breakaway following a foul call in the circle that turned the ball over to UNE. Madore broke into the Bowdoin zone and watched as her first shot was turned away by a diving Maddie Ferrucci. Madore collected her own rebound on the end line and snuck a low angle shot through to the far side.
