Men's Soccer Plays to Double Overtime Tie at Babson

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Babson on Wednesday afternoon following a Matt Dias Costa equalizer in the 72nd minute. 

The Polar Bears (4-2-2) and the Beavers (4-4-2) have faced each other 43 times in program history, with today's tie marking the eighth stalemate in the series. 

Game Highlights

  • Stevie Van Siclen made a pair of key saves in the first half. The junior keeper denied a glancing header by Adam Villari early in the game. Van Siclen later made a diving stop to his left while punching away a 20-yard blast by Caleb Long that was heading top corner.
  • The Beavers broke the deadlock 68:41 into the game off a goal by Villari. Addison Choi crossed the ball to Noah Parker who played the ball back from the edge of the six-year box. Parker fed Villari who booted a shot past Van Siclen for the lead.
  • Dias Costa tied the game in the 72nd minute, collecting his own rebound off a point-blank range shot to touch home the equalizer.
  • Babson ended the day with a 16-9 edge in shots and 8-7 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Van Siclen ended the day with five saves, while James Takami had four stops for Babson.
