Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin men's soccer team defeated host Wesleyan 1-0 on Saturday afternoon to collect the Polar Bears' first conference victory of the year.
The Polar Bears (3-1-0, 1-1-0 NESCAC) handed the Cardinals (2-1-1, 0-1-0 NESCAC) their first loss of the season. Saturday's matchup was a rematch of last year's NESCAC Championship, which Bowdoin won 1-0 in overtime.
Game Highlights
- The game's lone goal came 15:47 into play off the head of Moctar Niang. Ethan Ellsworth set up the play with a free kick from just outside the box that curved to Niang on the back post. The sophomore headed the ball past Jack Katkavich for a 1-0 lead.
- The Cardinals outshot the Polar Bears in both halves, edging Bowdoin 4-3 in the first and 6-4 in the second. Wesleyan was unable to solve Stevie Van Siclen who stopped four shots to earn the shutout.
- Katkavich ended the day with four saves as well, with his team earning the only two corner kicks of the game in the first half.
