Women's Tennis Falls to Williams in National Semifinals

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Bowdoin College women's tennis team fell behind early and couldn't recover in a 5-0 loss to Williams in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Tuesday evening.

The Polar Bears finish a phenomenal season with a record of 15-7, winning an NCAA regional and reaching the NCAA Semifinals for the first time in program history. Williams (22-3) avenges an regular season loss to the Polar Bears and advances to the national title match tomorrow against Emory.

Match Highlights

  • Williams earned all three doubles points, finishing off the Polar Bears in quick succession. With the lead, the Ephs needed only two victories in singles play to advance to the championship
  • Tess Trinka and Sarah Shadowens each forced third sets at #4 and #6 singles, respectively. Trinka rebounded from a first set loss to take the second 6-4. Shadowens extended her match with a 7-5 win in set two.
  • Joulia Likhanskaia, Kyra Silitch, and Samantha Stalder all suffered 7-6 losses in their first sets following tight tiebreakers.
  • Stalder finally succumbed at #5 singles, 7-6, 6-4 and senior Tiffany Cheng dropped her #2 match 6-4, 6-3, to close out the match
