Women's Tennis Drops 6-3 Decision After Amherst Comeback in Singles Play

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's tennis team jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, but ultimately fell 6-3 to sixth-ranked Amherst.

The fourth-ranked Polar Bears (10-2, 4-1 NESCAC) are still in search of their first win over Amherst (8-4, 2-0 NESCAC) since the 2008 NCAA Tournament.

Match Highlights

  • Tiffany Cheng and Joulia Likhanskaia locked up Bowdoin's first point of the day with an 8-2 win at number one doubles. Maddie Rolph and Pilar Giffenig gave the Polar Bears the 2-1 lead following an 8-6 victory at three doubles.
  • Likhanskaia tallied Bowdoin's lone singles victory with a win at number one. The junior shutout Sue Ghosh in a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
  • Amherst clinched the match with a win at six to go up 5-3.
