Women's Hoops Caps Perfect Semester With Win Over Bates

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team remained unbeaten in a tidy 76-43 win over Bates on Saturday afternoon at Morrell Gymnasium.

The 11th-ranked Polar Bears move to 8-0 for just the second time in the last seven years while the Bobcats drop to 2-5 overall. The teams will play their conference contest in Lewiston on January 7.

Game Highlights

  • Bowdoin never trailed, but Bates hung close in the opening minutes until a late Polar Bear surge took command of the game.
  • With the Polar Bears leading 14-10 with 2:21 to go in the opening period, Bowdoin rolled off a 10-0 run to end the quarter, capped by a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Abigail Kelly, to make it 24-10
  • After Bates scored the opening bucket of the second quarter, Bowdoin used a 13-3 run, featuring five different scorers, to increase their lead to 22 points, 37-15.
  • Bowdoin led 43-21 at intermission and pushed their edge to as many as 35 points in the second half en route to the victory.
  • Through eight games, Bowdoin's average margin of victory is 35.9 points.

By The Numbers

  • Bowdoin's balanced attack was too much for the Bobcats as 14 different players scored for the Polar Bears, including five with seven points or more.
  • Kate Kerrigan scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds in just 18 minutes of play while Marle Curle had seven points, five rebounds and five assists in 18 minutes.
  • Abigail Kelly ended with 12 points off the bench for Bowdoin as the Polar Bear reserves outscored Bates themselves, scoring 45 points.
  • Madeline Foote had 11 points for Bates while Bernadette Connors scored ten.
  • Allie Coppola of Bates led all players with 13 rebounds.
  • Bowdoin shot 48.5% for the game and held Bates to 29.4% while forcing 22 turnovers. Bowdoin also claimed a 45-30 edge in rebounding.
