Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bowdoin College volleyball team wrapped up its trip to the ultra-competitive Washington University Active Ankle Invitational with a pair of losses on Saturday.
The Polar Bears, who held their own in all four matches over the weekend against national powerhouses, suffered a 3-1 loss to Illinois Wesleyan, who ranks just outside the AVCA Top-25, and then took a 3-1 defeat to Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the 25th-ranked team in the nation. Bowdoin stands at 12-9 overall this season.
Illinois Wesleyan Match
- In a match that saw the teams nearly evenly matched throughout, Illinois Wesleyan prevailed 3-1 by set scores of 25-22, 26-24, 21-25, 25-22.
- Bowdoin's Caroline Flaharty had a career-high 22 kills with eight digs in the loss.
- Quincy Leech sparked the attack with a season-high 51 assists and, late in the match, surpassed 3,000 assists for her career, becoming just the second Bowdoin player to reach the plateau. She is second all-time at Bowdoin with 3,054 assists following action this weekend.
- Sydney Salle (15 kills) and Erika Sklaver (10 kills) also saw double-figures offensively.
- Defensively, Katie Doherty (31 digs) and Lisa Sheldon (14 digs) paced Bowdoin.
- IWU was led by 27 kills and 14 digs from Tyler Brown in the victory.
Wisconsin-Eau Claire Match
- Bowdoin battled to a 1-1 tie, but ran out of steam late in a 3-1 defeat to Eau Claire, losing by set scores of 25-17, 17-25, 25-22, 25-14.
- Erika Sklaver had a season-best 17 kills while Flaharty saw double-digits again with ten to go with 14 digs.
- Leech recorded 40 assists while Doherty (18 digs) and Clare McInerney (10 digs) led the Polar Bears on defense.
