Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Julia Bottone scored 3:08 into the second half and Julia Patterson gave Bowdoin College an insurance goal in a 2-0 victory over Colby College in NESCAC women's soccer Wednesday.
The Polar Bears move to 9-4 overall and 5-3 in league play, while the Mules drop to 6-7 and 1-7 in the conference.
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin outshot the hosts by a 12-0 margin in the opening half and held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks, but were unable to break through the Colby defense. Sam Rizzo made five saves in the half.
- Patterson fed Bottone early in the second to break through. Bottone shot lower left corner from 15 yards out to best Rizzo.
- Colby nearly tied the game with nine minutes to play as Katherine Gillespie beat Rachel Stout to a 50-50 ball eight yards out from the right post. Gillespie took a low shot, but defender Kate Rusk-Kosa blocked the shot on the near side to preserve the clean sheet.
- Claire Dardinski set up Patterson two minutes later to double the Polar Bears lead. Patterson hammered home a cross from Dardinski to round out the day's scoring.
- Stout ended the day with three saves, while Rizzo made seven stops for Colby. The Polar Bears held a 20-6 shot advantage and 11-3 edge in corner kicks.
