Women's Basketball Stifles Trinity in Road Victory

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team jumped to an early lead and never looked back on its way to a 71-36 win at Trinity on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears return to the win column and improve to 13-5 (3-2 NESCAC) while the Bantams drop to 9-6 (0-5 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • After its loss at Amherst last night, Bowdoin left little doubt of the outcome early against Trinity, jumping to an 18-2 lead after eight minutes of play
  • Bowdoin hit three three-pointers in the run, including two from Lauren Petit, and led 18-7 after the opening quarter
  • The Polar Bears outscored the Bantams 16-9 in the second period to hold a 34-16 lead at the break
  • Bowdoin's defense continued to lock down Trinity as the Polar Bears led by as many as 33 points in the second half on their way to the win

By The Numbers

  • Bowdoin held Trinity to just 14% shooting from the field and forced 26 turnovers to earn the decisive win
  • Shannon Brady recorded 19 points and nine rebounds while Marle Curle added 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals
  • Petit ended with 10 points for the Polar Bears while Abigail Kelly pitched in eight points off the bench
  • Mackenzie Griffin led Trinity with 14 points (12-12 from the free throw line)
  • The Polar Bears owned a 43-33  edge in rebounding and scored 32 points off of turnovers in the victory
