Hot Outside Shooting Leads Trinity Past Bowdoin in Men's Hoops

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Trinity College men's basketball team rode red-hot outside shooting to a 85-66 win at Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon.

The Bantams improve to 14-4 (5-0 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears fall to 8-7 (1-4 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • The Bantams never trailed, jumping to a 16-4 lead after the first three minutes thanks to four early three pointers
  • Trinity nailed their first six three-point shots and led 22-10 following a Rick Naylor trifecta with 14:18 left in the opening period
  • Bowdoin chipped away at the Bantam lead, rolling off an 8-0 run to close within 22-18 following a Liam Farley jumper with 12:20 in the half
  • Trinity responded with a 9-3 run of their own to push the lead back to double figures and closed the opening half on a 7-0 run to take a 51-31 lead at the break
  • Bowdoin had a chance to get back into the contest early in the second half as consecutive Matt Palecki three pointers closed the gap to 14 points, 51-37
  • Trinity went scoreless for the first four minutes of the second period but Bowdoin couldn't take advantage
  • The Bantams found their footing and used an 8-2 run to push the lead back to 20 points with under 15 minutes to play
  • Trinity pushed the lead to as many as 26 points in the second half en route to the win

  • Trinity shot 60% from three-point range (12-20) in the game to spearhead the attack
  • Shay Ajayi was 3-3 from long-distance on his way to a game-high 19 points for the visitors
  • Chris Turnbull contributed 14 off the bench for the Bantams
  • Bowdoin was paced by 14 from Lucas Hausman while Jack Simonds pitched in 11 and Neil Fuller added 10 with a game-high 12 rebounds
  • Bowdoin held a 40-33 edge in rebounding but committed 19 turnovers and shot just 34% from the field in the loss
