Box Score LEWISTON, Maine - The Bowdoin and Bates men's soccer teams played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday evening, 0-0, under the lights at Garcelon Field.
The Polar Bears stand at 2-2-1 (1-2-1 NESCAC) while the Bobcats move to 4-0-1 (1-0-1 NESCAC).
How It Happened
- Bowdoin dominated the pace of play and had the better of the chances on the night, holding a 21-10 advantage in shots including an 8-2 lead in shots on goal.
- The Polar Bears also held a 13-2 edge in corner kicks for the game.
- Bates goaltender Sam Polito made eight saves to preserve the tie for the hosts, including a pair of saves early in overtime. Politio dove to stop a hard shot by Andrew Jones and then got a piece of Levi Morant's rebound.
- Bowdoin also hit a pair of posts in the game.
- Stevie Van Siclen and the Polar Bear defense did its part, holding Bates off the scoreboard. Van Siclen made two saves.
- It is the second year in a row the teams fought into double overtime; the Polar Bears won 2-1 in extra time a year ago, their fifth straight win against Bates. The teams last tied on Sept. 18, 2010, a 0-0 result.
