BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin women's soccer team secured its first conference victory of the season with a goal in each half to down visiting Wesleyan 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears collected their first NESCAC win of 2015 and improve to 2-1-0 (1-1-0 NESCAC), while handing the Cardinals (3-2-0, 1-1-0 NESCAC) their first conference defeat.
How It Happened
- Kiersten Turner set up Bowdoin's first goal of the game with a run down the left side. The senior connected with Julia Patterson as she came streaking into the box with a cross towards the top. Patterson slid a shot towards the left post, beating Wesleyan keeper Meghan Hanan for the 1-0 lead 20 minutes into action.
- The Polar Bears went ahead 2-0 in the second half off a Jamie Hofstetter header at 68:03. Maggie Godley took the corner kick from the right side for Bowdoin, putting the ball up for Hofstetter who went up against Wesleyan's goalie and headed it over the keeper.
- Bridget McCarthy made five saves for Bowdoin to earn the shutout.
- Hanan made two saves in 78:51 minutes of play for Wesleyan before Olivia Gorman relieved her and made one stop.
- Each team took nine shots, with Bowdoin edging out the Cardinals with a 6-2 corner kick advantage.
