Box Score LEWISTON, Maine - The Bowdoin field hockey team turned a 1-0 lead at halftime into a 4-0 advantage seven minutes into the second half, defeating Bates 5-0 on Tuesday evening.
The Polar Bears (3-0, 2-0 NESCAC) received three goals from Rachel Kennedy and two from Kimmy Ganong in the victory. Bowdoin outshot Bates (0-2, 0-2 NESCAC) by a 26-3 margin and collected 12 penalty corners to Bates' two.
How It Happened
- Kennedy scored her team-high fourth goal of the season in the sixth minute, banging in a shot on their third penalty corner of the game with an assist by Kelsey Mullaney.
- Kennedy fed Liz Znamierowski, who in turn passed to Ganong just 42 seconds into the second half, putting Bowdoin up 2-0.
- Kennedy added her second tally, an unassisted goal, 93 seconds later to make it 3-0.
- Ganong scored unassisted for a 4-0 Bowdoin advantage, with a hard drive from high on the left side of the circle eight minutes into the half.
- Kennedy made it a hat trick with another unassisted tally for the 5-0 lead.
- Bowdoin outshot Bates 16-1 in the second half, with the Bobcats' lone attempt coming in the waning seconds with Shannon Beaton's breakaway attempt skidding wide right.
