BRUNSWICK, Maine - Six different players scored for Bowdoin as the women's soccer team opened its home schedule with a 6-1 win over Husson University on Sunday afternoon.
The Polar Bears earn their first win of the season to improve to 1-1-0 in 2015. Bowdoin handed the Eagles their first loss of the season, dropping the visitors to 2-1-1.
How It Happened
- Jamie Hofstetter buried a loose ball from the middle of the box, sending her shot to the left post, to give Bowdoin the 1-0 lead just over 13 minutes into the game.
- After Husson successfully defended the initial corner kick by Bowdoin, Kiersten Turner collected the ball and fed Julia Patterson a pass in front. The first-year was able to turn on goal and sent a shot into the left corner of the net 21:37 into the first half.
- Turner tallied a goal of her own after heading in a cross from Sophie al Mutawaly from the left side six minutes later.
- Elizabeth Weathers rounded out the first half's scoring by finishing off a cross from the left end line.
- Husson scored the first goal of the second half just over three minutes into action as Alison Boulier lofted a shot over the hands of Bowdoin's Rachel Stout after coming down the left side.
- The Polar Bears responded with two more goals as al Mutawaly and Julia Bottone scored at 51:29 and 77:59 respectively.
- Bowdoin outshot Husson 36-7, with Jordyn Hopkins (six saves) and Kayla Gordon (seven saves) making stops for the Eagles. All three Bowdoin keepers saw time and combined for a pair of saves.
- Bowdoin held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.
