Williams Women's Tennis Defeats Bowdoin in NESCAC Semifinals

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Williams College women's tennis team claimed the first three completed singles matches to secure a 5-1 win over Bowdoin in the NESCAC Semifinals on Saturday afternoon at Middlebury College.

The Polar Bears (13-4) suffer their second defeat to Williams in the last seven days while the Ephs improve to 19-0 on the year.

Bowdoin's #1 doubles pairing of Joulia Likhanskaia and Tiffany Cheng eased to a 8-3 win to give Bowdoin an early lead before Williams countered with a victory at #3 doubles. The swing match in doubles play saw  Juli Raventos/Linda Shin mount a late rally to tie Bowdoin's Tess Trinka/Kyra Silitch and then take a 7-4 tiebreaker to give the Ephs a key 2-1 lead heading to singles.

Williams jumped ahead early in the top three singles matches and garnered straight-set wins at #1, #2 and #3 to seal the victory.

Bowdoin is likely to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament when selections are announced on Monday.
