BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin baseball team captured a 10-4 victory in rain shortened six-inning game on Monday afternoon against Thomas College.

The Polar Bears bounce back from two Saturday loses to climb to 11-16. The Terriers leave Brunswick with a 12-15 mark.

Michael Staes got the start for Bowdoin, going 5.1 innings, while allowing two earned runs off as many hits. Staes tallied seven strikeouts with four walks in the game. Rob Casarez got started on the mound for Thomas, allowing four runs, before being replaced by Peyton Kennison who went 2.1 innings allowing one hit with four strikeouts.

The Terriers struck first in the top of the opening inning, capitalizing on poor conditions and Bowdoin misplays to push Nik Beeson across the plate. Bowdoin responded in the bottom half of the inning with four runs. Buddy Shea tied the game at 1-1 as he came home off a wild pitch, followed by a two-run single from Sean Mullaney. Bowdoin took advantage of another wild pitch to take the 4-1 lead.

Thomas cut the Polar Bears lead in half in the third as Anree Benitez drove in the runner with a sacrifice fly to deep center field. Bowdoin scored five more in the fourth and another in the fifth before Thomas would answer. Chad Martin knocked in an RBI double and Cole DiRoberto drove in another run with fly out to center. Martin eventually came around to score on fielder's choice, followed by a bases clearing two-run double from Stephen Girolamo. Mullaney had his third RBI of the game in the bottom of the fifth, driving in Joe Gentile. Thomas got two back in the game's final inning with Travis Krause taking home on wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to left by Beeson.

Bowdoin hosts Colby in their series opener on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Thomas hosts a league doubleheader against UMaine-Farmington on Wednesday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
