BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's tennis team swept doubles play and collected four wins in singles action to defeat visiting Middlebury 7-2 in a rematch of last year's NCAA Regional Final.
The tenth ranked Polar Bears improve to 11-3 on the season and 5-1 in NESCAC play, while dropping the eighth ranked Panthers to 7-5 (2-2 NESCAC).
The Polar Bears tallied 8-4 doubles victories at #1 and #2. Joulia Likhanskaia and Tiffany Cheng dispatched Ria Gerger and Lily Bondy in the top spot, with Tess Trinka and Kyra Silitch finishing off a their opponents at #2. Emma Chow and Pilar Giffenig captured an 8-5 victory at #3 doubles.
Likhanskaia earned the win at #1 singles with a hard fought three-set victory (6-3, 2-6, 7-5). Tess Trinka finished off #3 singles in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) as did Silitch (6-4, 6-3) at #5 and Pilar Giffenig (6-2, 6-4) in the six spots.
Bowdoin next hosts Tufts on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
