Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – Cielle Collins led the way offensively for the Bowdoin softball team, going 4 for 5 with 3 RBI in a pair of Tuesday games, driving home both runs in an 8-2 loss to Anderson (Ind.) and 11-0 win over Gallaudet.
The Polar Bears are 8-4 with four games remaining in Florida. The loss to Anderson snapped a three game win streak. Bowdoin returns to action with a doubleheader on Thursday evening against Ripon and Smith.
All Bowdoin's offensive scoring against Anderson came in the opening inning as the Polar Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Adriane Krul opened the bottom of the first with a single to right field followed by a walk for Emily Griffin to put players on first and second. Collins drove a hard shot to center, scoring the runners on first and second. Anderson answered with a pair in the top of the second and added one each in the third through fifth innings. The Ravens tacked on three more in the sixth while keeping the Polar Bears' offense quiet.
Bowdoin rebounded with a five-inning rout against Gallaudet, putting runs up all but one inning of play. Julia Geaumont tagged an RBI single to center, scoring Griffin from first, to put the Polar Bears on top 1-0 after one. On the rubber, Griffin retired the side in order beginning with a pair of strikeouts in the bottom of the inning. The sophomore drove home Lauren O'Shea with a single to left to spark a four run second for Bowdoin. Geaumont, Katie Gately, and Collins all pushed runners across the plate in next three at-bats. The Polar Bears offense kicked back into gear in the fourth as Ali Miller scored off a Nicole Nelson single and O'Shea scored on a Bison error. Miller capitalized on another misplay to score Bowdoin's eighth run in the top of the fifth, with Gately scoring soon after on a wild pitch. Alana Luzzio rounded out the offensive output with a double to left driving home Emma Stevens and Nelson. Griffin faced 29 total batters, allowing just one hit, while tallying six strikeouts and two walks.
