Women's Soccer Falls to Williams in NESCAC Title Match

Box Score

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's soccer team came up just short in its bid for the NESCAC Championship, falling 2-0 to Williams in the title match on Sunday.

The Ephs (16-1-1) win their seventh NESCAC title with the win and earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Polar Bears (12-5-1) will await word on an at-large bid to the field when selections are announced on Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

How It Happened

  • Williams held a 9-2 edge in shots in the opening half, but none of the Ephs' bids were on target while both of Bowdoin's chances were swept aside by netminder Tressa Palcheck as the contest entered halftime scoreless
  • Bowdoin's best chance to score in the opening half came just five minutes in, when a nicely-placed ball by Taylor Haist found the head of Julia Patterson, but was stopped by Palcheck
  • The Ephs finally broke through nine minutes after intermission when Natalie Turner-Wyatt put a Evan Gancedo feed into the top corner of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead
  • Kristi Kirshe doubled Williams' lead with under three minutes to play to seal the win for Williams
  • McCarthy finished with three saves for Bowdoin.

Up Next

  • The Polar Bears will hope for an at-large bid to make their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance when selections are announced on Monday
