Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bowdoin women's soccer team shut out Trinity 1-0 on Saturday afternoon to advance to its third NESCAC Championship meeting with Williams.
The Polar Bears (12-4-1) have reached the conference finals twice prior to the 2015 season. Bowdoin appeared in the championship game in 2007 and 2012, both times facing off against Williams. Trinity (11-6-0) advanced to the Saturday's semifinal following a 2-1 victory over Bates. The Bantams bested Bowdoin during the regular season with a late goal to capture a 1-0 victory.
How It Happened
- Bowdoin controlled play in the early stages of the game, stringing together passes to maintain possession. Evan Fencik controlled a ball played up the right side and watched her cross disappear into the back of Trinity's net 14:26 into the game.
- Trinity mounted its most significant offensive threat during the opening fifteen minutes of the second half, recording three shots during the stretch.
- The Bantams were unable to convert on a corner kick in the waning minutes of the match as Bowdoin's defense completed the shutout.
- Bridget McCarthy made a pair of saves in net for the Polar Bears with Monica Difiori matching her on the opposite end. Trinity outshot Bowdoin by a 9-5 margin, while the Polar Bears held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
