UNE Tips Bowdoin in Women's Basketball

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The University of New England women's basketball team defeated Bowdoin in Morrell Gymnasium for the first time since 1990 in a 66-46 win on Tuesday evening.

The Polar Bears dip to 1-2 on the season with the loss while the Nor'easters improve to 3-0. 

Game Highlights

  • After a tight opening quarter that saw UNE hold a 13-12 edge, the Nor'easters closed the opening half on a 10-2 run, capped by a buzzer-beating jump sot by Alanna Vose to hold a 28-19 lead at halftime
  • UNE pushed the lead to double digits early in the third quarter as they came out of the locker room on a 5-2 run
  • Bowdoin cut the lead to ten points on three occasions late in the quarter, but UNE rolled off a 5-0 surge at the end of the stanza to carry a 47-32 lead into the fourth
  • The Polar Bears could get no closer than 13 points as UNE pulled away

By The Numbers

  • The Nor'easters had seven players play for the majority of the contest and finished at 39% shooting while Bowdoin, playing 14 players, shot just 27%
  • Bowdoin held a 46-42 edge in rebounding but UNE hit 15 of 26 free throws compared to just 5-5 for the Polar Bears from the stripe
  • The Polar Bears turned the ball over 20 times, leading to 18 UNE points. UNE also scored 13 second-chance points in the win
  • Lauren Hayden scored a career-high 26 points for UNE while Vose added 16
  • Bowdoin was paced by ten points apiece from Shannon Brady and Abigail Kelly
