Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team swept UMass Boston 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-20) in the NCAA Division III First Round on Friday afternoon on the campus of MIT.
The Polar Bears (24-4), winners of 22 of their last 23 matches, advance to the Second Round on Saturday where they will face Babson (28-8), who won a five-set regular-season match against Bowdoin on September 12.
How It Happened
- Bowdoin cruised in the first two sets, 25-16 and 25-11, before having to rally to claim the third, 25-20
- Tied at 11 apiece in the opening set, Bowdoin used a 6-0 run to take command en route to the 25-16 win. Jewett had five kills in the win
- Bowdoin sprinted to a 10-5 lead in the second and never looked back, extending their lead to 17-6 with a 7-1 run in an eventual 25-11 triumph
- Trailing 15-13 in the third, Bowdoin rallied to knot it at 17 apiece before using a 4-1 surge to take a 21-18 lead. A block by Sydney Salle sealed the win, Bowdoin's sixth in NCAA Tournament play
- Bowdoin has now won at least one match in each of their four NCAA Tournament appearances, in 2011, '12, '14 and '15
By The Numbers
- Jewett led the Polar Bears with a match-high 13 kills and 14 digs while also delivering two aces and three blocks
- Erika Sklaver and Hailey Wahl had seven kills apiece for Bowdoin while Wahl also added three aces
- Quincy Leech bad 29 assists, 13 digs and three kills in the win
- Eileen Shi led the Beacons with 11 kills as UMass-Boston hurt itself with 20 attack errors and seven service errors
