Men's Soccer Settles for Scoreless Tie with Colby

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin and Colby men's soccer teams played to a 0-0 double overtime tie on Tuesday afternoon at Pickard Field.

The Polar Bears sit at 6-3-3 (2-3-3 NESCAC) with two conference matches left to play. The Mules tally their second tie in NESCAC action to sit at 3-7-3 (1-5-2 NESCAC).

How It Happened

  • Colby threatened to score seconds into the game as Daniel Vogel launched a shot at the top left corner, forcing Bowdoin's Stevie Van Siclen to leap to his side and deflect the ball away 41 seconds into action.
  • Neither team would truly challenge the keepers on either end through the remainder of the first half. Van Siclen and John Pappas each made two more saves in the half, but no challenge ever matched Vogel's in the opening minute.
  • Colby's most promising look in the second half, again came early in the frame, just 2:37 into play. Brandon Fahlberg took a shot from close to the right post, beating Van Siclen, but Patrick Kearon cleared the ball from behind the goalie to deny Fahlberg
  • Bowdoin's offense stepped up the pressure in the second half, with several promising sequences. Levi Morant headed a shot to redirect a feed, but Pappas was in position to absorb the shot 15 minutes into the frame.
  • Moctar Niang looked to put Bowdoin on the board two minutes later connecting with a header off a corner kick from Ben Citrin. Niang's ball collided with the crossbar and deflected back into the field of play.
  • Pappas extended the game into a second overtime period by denying a short side shot attempt from Cedric Charlier as time expired in the first extra frame.
  • Each goalie ended the game with four saves in 110 minutes of scoreless play. Bowdoin outshot the Mules by a 17-6 margin and held a 10-3 edge in corner kicks.

  • Bowdoin travels to Connecticut College for a 2:00 p.m. NESCAC matchup on Saturday.
  • Colby heads west to Hamilton on October 24 for a 1:30 p.m. conference matchup.
