Bowdoin Erupts For Four Goals in Second Half To Beat Babson

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's soccer team exploded for four second-half goals on its way to a 4-1 comeback victory over Babson on Monday afternoon at Pickard Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 5-3-2 this season with the victory while the Beavers fall to 7-5-1 overall.

How It Happened

  • The teams traded good chances in the opening half, but it was Babson who struck first when Justin Kaplan and Carlo Araujo played give-and-go in the 33rd minute. Kaplan finished off a feed from Araujo inside the far post to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead
  • Bowdoin's best chance in the first half came moments after the Babson goal, but a shot by Connor Keefe sailed just wide of the net as the visitors carried their one-goal advantage into the break
  • After a sustained possession, Bowdoin broke through in the 55th minute when Kiefer Solarte played a ball into the box from the right side to Keefe on the left of the penalty area. Keefe lobbed it back across to Hunter Miller, who deposited it into the net to tie the contest
  • Eight minutes later Bowdoin took the lead when Keefe received a through ball from Austin Downing and left-footed it past diving Babson goaltender Stephen Donato
  • The Polar Bears continued to roll, scoring again just 4:40 later when Sam Ward lofted the ball into the center of the box where Moctar Niang was able to head it inside the right post to make it 3-1
  • With Babson pushing upfield to cut into Bowdoin's lead, the Polar Bears were able to convert on a breakaway as Downing carried the ball down the left side and skipped it across to Keefe for his second goal of the day with under five minutes remaining
  • Bowdoin's four goals in the second period were the most in a half by the Polar Bears since they scored five in the second half against UNE on September 8
  • The four goals were the most allowed in a game by Babson this season
  • Stevie Van Siclen made three saves in goal for Bowdoin while Donato stopped one shot for Babson
