Women's Hoops Grounds Cardinals in 25-Point Victory

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team extended its win streak to ten games with a decisive 75-52 victory over Wesleyan on Saturday at Morrell Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears improve to 13-2 (2-0 NESCAC) while the Cardinals fall to 5-7 (0-2 NESCAC).

Bowdoin had four players in double digits in the victory, led by 17 from Megan Phelps, who also had seven rebounds. Sara Binkhorst had 16 points for the Polar Bears while Shannon Brady recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds. Kate Kerrigan had 11 points, nine boards and three steals for Bowdoin. Jackie Browne was the lone Cardinal in double figures with 13.

The Polar Bears jumped out of the gate to a 15-4 lead, sparked by six early points from Phelps and forced 16 first-half turnovers by the Cardinals to double-up the visitors, 38-19, at intermission. Phelps had 15 points in the first half to propel Bowdoin to the big lead.

The second half was more of the same, as the Cardinals could get no closer than 17 points over the final 20 minutes. Bowdoin held a 45-34 edge on the boards and scored 26 points off 21 Wesleyan turnovers while cashing in for 23 second-chance points off of 18 offensive rebounds.

Bowdoin will return to action at Williams next Friday at 7:00 p.m. Wesleyan will play at Johnson & Wales on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
