Box Score GORHAM, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's soccer team returned to the win column with a 3-0 road win at the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday afternoon.
The Polar Bears, ranked 18th in the latest NSCAA Division III poll, improve to 7-1-0 with the win while the Huskies fall to 2-8-1. Bowdoin has posted four consecutive shutouts against Southern Maine and owns a 29-0-1 edge in the all-time series.
Kiersten Turner got the Polar Bears started just under five minutes into the contest, notching her third goal of the season to give Bowdoin the early 1-0 lead. Just eight minutes later, a nifty give-and-go in the box came to the foot of Jamie Hofstetter, who deposited her third goal of the year off assists from Amanda Kinneston and Turner to make it 2-0.
Bowdoin would carry its two-goal advantage into the second half, when Hofstetter slipped a through-ball to Julia Bottone on the far post with under nine minutes to play. The Polar Bears finished with a 32-2 advantage in shots and 10-0 lead in corner kicks.
Bridget McCarthy worked the first 73:32, making two saves in goal for the Polar Bears. Rachel Stout was not forced to make a stop in the final 16:28 to close out the win for Bowdoin.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday as they host Trinity at noon.
