Field Hockey Remains Perfect with Midweek Win over Beavers

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team remained perfect, collecting its fifth win of the season in a 4-0 shutout over UMaine-Farmington on Thursday evening.

The top-ranked Polar Bears improve to 5-0 on the year, pushing their consecutive home win streak to 44. The Beavers fall 3-3 following the loss.

Bowdoin went up early with a opening goal off the stick of Adrienne O'Donnell just 2:52 into the contest. Picking the ball off a Farmington defender in the circle, O'Donnell charged towards the net and flipped a shot blocker-side of the goalie Alyssa Arsenault for the 1-0 lead. O'Donnell earned an assist on Bowdoin's second goal of the game ten minutes later. Carving the end line, she dished a perfect pass to Emily Simonton as she cut into space beyond the stroke line and one-timed a sweep into Farmington's cage. Simonton stormed down the field for her second goal of the game less than a minute later. Receiving a feed at the top of the circle and making a move to the right to beat her defender, Simonton took a low angle shot from the right side which snuck between Arsenault and the post.

The Polar Bears held on to their 3-0 lead through the majority of the second half until Liz Znamierowski put home Bowdoin's final goal of the night with 7:40 to play. O'Donnell collected her second assist of the night as she picked the ball off a defender outside the circle and ran towards the end line and sent a cross cage pass towards Znamierowski. With the ball deflected up off a defender's stick, Znamierowski connected mid-air and put away her first of the season.

Arsenault played the opening half in net for Farmington, collecting seven saves, before giving way to Patricia Smith in the second (eight saves). Bowdoin's Hannah Gartner played all 70 minutes for the Polar Bears. Bowdoin outshot Farmington 30-0 and held an 11-0 edge in corners.

The Polar Bears return to action next Wednesday as they face Wellesley at 7:00 p.m. The Beavers travel to Castleton for an 11:00 a.m. conference game on Saturday.
