BRUNSWICK, Maine - Kiersten Turner's first half goal accounted for the only score of the game as the Bowdoin women's soccer team defeated Bates on Wednesday afternoon at Pickard Field, 1-0.

The Polar Bears, who cracked the NSCAA Division III poll this week at #19, improve to 3-0-0 (3-0-0 NESCAC) on the year. The Bobcats fall to 3-2-0 (1-2-0 NESCAC) on the season. Bowdoin improves to 37-10-2 all-time vs. the Bobcats and are unbeaten in the last ten meetings (9-0-1) dating back to 2005.

Bowdoin controlled the pace of play in the early going, and finally cashed in when Turner took control of the ball in the box, shook off a pair of defenders and blasted a shot into the top-right corner at 26:52. The Polar Bears carried a 9-3 shot advantage into halftime.

The Polar Bears continued to pressure in the second half, as Turner and Amanda Kinneston both had solid bids to pad Bowdoin's lead early in the stanza, but saw their shots sail high.

Bates had three late chances to deadlock the score, all coming in the final ten minutes. Julia Rosen, Julia Rice and Maggie Coco all put shots on goal over the homestretch, but goaltender Bridget McCarthy made the lead stand by stopping all three shots to preserve the shutout.

Posting her second shutout of the campaign, McCarthy made five saves for the Polar Bears. Alyssa Morgosh was solid in net for the Bobcats, stopping six shots for the visitors.

Bowdoin will return to action Saturday as they travel to play at Middlebury (11:00 a.m.). Bates will host Wesleyan Saturday in their next contest (11:00 a.m.).
