Women's Volleyball Splits Against Nationally-Ranked Opponents

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team knocked off 21st-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday before falling to fourth-ranked Emory on the final day of the Emory Classic on Saturday.

The Polar Bears' split against nationally-ranked foes moves them to 8-1 on the season.

Bowdoin went the distance to defeat Whitewater, claiming a hard-fought 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-11) win. Christy Jewett led Bowdoin with 17 kills, 17 digs and five blocks in the victory. Erika Sklaver had 13 kills and nine blocks for the Polar Bears while Michelle Albright added 11 with eight digs. Katie  Doherty had 13 digs while Quincy Leech added 30 assists in the win.

National power Emory dealt Bowdoin its first loss of the season later in the afternoon, 3-1 (25-19, 25-16, 21-25, 25-22). Despite dropping the first two sets, Bowdoin rebounded to take the third before falling a tightly-played fourth. Jewett and Sklaver notched a dozen kills apiece while Jewett added 11 digs. Clare McInerney led Bowdoin with 19 assists.

The Polar Bears will return home next weekend as they begin NESCAC play  against Connecticut College on Friday (8:00 p.m.) and Tufts on Saturday (2:00 p.m.).
