Box Score 2 WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Thomas on Monday afternoon by scores of 15-0 and 4-2.
The Polar Bears improve to 16-11-1 on the season while the Terriers fall to 7-22 on the year.
Bowdoin combined for 15 hits, including a three run homerun by Chad Martin to route the hosts 15-0 in the opening game. A passed ball in the first inning scored Aaron Rosen to give the away side an early advantage, then the Polar Bears erupted for six runs in the second and five in the third to jump out to a comfortable 12-0 lead. Bowdoin added a run in the fifth, and two in the sixth to take the game 15-0. Michael Staes earned the win, going five innings with five strikeouts and no earned runs.
In game two, Bowdoin got on the board in the first inning with two runs, including an RBI single by Martin to plate in Rosen, and a sacrifice fly by Sam Canales to left field that scored Peter Cimini. The Polar Bears extended their advantage in the fourth as Kyle LeBlanc tripled to score Chris Cameron, and Rosen drove home LeBlanc later in the inning. Sam Herzig earned the victory for the Polar Bears, going three innings, while Stephen Girolamo and Jon Fraser each pitched two innings out of the bullpen in the win.
The Polar Bears will open their three-game series against Tufts on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
