BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's tennis team came within a single match of upsetting second-ranked Emory on Sunday afternoon, falling 5-4 to the Eagles in a non-conference match at Maine Pines Tennis Club.
The Polar Bears fall to 10-4 with their second-straight loss to a top-five team. Emory moves to 18-2 on the season with the victory.
Bowdoin led after doubles action for the second-straight day, capturing wins at #2 from Kate Winingham/Samantha Stalder and at #3 from Tiffany Cheng/Pilar Giffenig to carry a 2-1 edge into singles play.
The Eagles won four of the six singles matches to claim the victory, however, as Bowdoin was able to garner a three-set win from Emma Lewis at #5 (6-4-, 3-6, 12-10) and Joulia Likhanskaia at #3 (3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5)).
The Polar Bears will look to get back into the win column with a doubleheader next Saturday at Colby and Bates.
