Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine - Keegan Pieri scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Bowdoin College men's basketball team to a 71-49 non-conference victory over Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday evening.
The Polar Bears snap a three-game losing skid and improve to 5-3 this season. The Mariners fall to 1-6 to open the campaign.
Bowdoin never trailed, jumping to a 9-2 lead in the opening minutes. Maine Maritime stayed within shouting distance, cutting the Bowdoin lead to 15-10 following a three-pointer by Zachary Radcliffe midway through the period. Bowdoin answered with a 14-2 run, capped by a Jake Donnelly three-pointer, to extend their lead to 29-12.
The Polar Bears carried a 36-15 lead into the second half and the Mariners could get no closer than 13 points over the final 20 minutes as Bowdoin cruised to the 22-point victory.
Pieri added 10 rebounds to go with his 27 points on 9-15 shooting from the field. John Swords also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards for the Polar Bears while Liam Farley scored a career-high 12 points off the bench for Bowdoin. Nick Holt was the lone Mariner in double figures with 15 points, scored entirely on five three-pointers.
Bowdoin held a 46-24 edge in rebounding and connected on 50% of their shots (26-52) for the game. Maine Maritime hit on 30.5% of their shots (18-59), with 10 of their 18 field goals coming from long-distance.
The Polar Bears will close out their first semester with a road game at Maine-Farmington on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The Mariners will also play on Friday evening in a NAC conference home game against Castleton at 7:00 p.m.
