Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine - The University of New England women's basketball team rallied from a late deficit with under four minutes remaining to defeat Bowdoin, 68-64 on Tuesday evening at the Alfond Forum.
The Nor'easters improve to 3-1 on the season while the Polar Bears fall to 3-2. UNE was sparked by 21 points off the bench from Alanna Vose, who went 6-10 from three-point range. Bowdoin was paced by 19 points from Sara Binkhorst and 18 from Shannon Brady.
UNE led 37-31 at halftime after a wild first half in which each team led by as many as 11 points. Bowdoin rallied to take a 47-45 lead on a Lauren Petit three-pointer with 11:20 remaining in the second half. The Polar Bears maintained their lead until 3:07 to play when Meghan Gribbon made a layup and converted a free throw to give the hosts a 56-54 edge. Lauren Hayden extended UNE's lead to 59-54 on a three-pointer with 2:39 to go.
Bowdoin closed the gap to a single possession on three occasions over the closing moments, including following a Sara Binkhorst jumper with six seconds to go. But the Nor'easters converted 6-6 from the free throw line in the final 38 seconds to seal the win.
Bowdoin held a 46-32 edge in rebounding, but committed 19 turnovers. Thanks to Vose, UNE went 10-23 from three-point range compared to 4-24 for the Polar Bears.
