Women's Basketball Dominates Second Half of Road Victory at Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team dominated the second half of a 68-48 non-conference victory at Endicott on Wednesday evening.

The Polar Bears broke open a tie game at halftime and outscored the Gulls 41-21 in the second period to improve to 2-1 on the campaign. Endicott falls to 1-2 with the loss.

Lauren Petit provided a spark off the bench for Bowdoin, scoring 11 of her game-high 16 points in the second half for the Polar Bears on 4-8 from three-point range. Sara Binkhorst had 15 points and ten rebounds while Shannon Brady scored 13 for Bowdoin. Kayleen Whail led Endicott with 15 points and eight caroms.

Both teams struggled offensively out of the game as the contest entered intermission tied at 27-27. The teams traded buckets for the opening eight minutes of the second half as Bowdoin held a three-point lead, 45-42, with 11:21 to go.

Binkhorst started the decisive surge with a three-pointer for the Polar Bears, and Petit knocked down a pair of trifectas as Bowdoin rolled off a 18-3 run over the next six minutes to push their lead to 63-45 with under six minutes to go. The Polar Bear defense clamped down as well, holding Endicott to 20.8% shooting in the second half.

Bowdoin held a 49-36 edge on the glass and scored 18 second-chance points on 19 offensive rebounds. The Polar Bears also cashed in 24 points off 21 Endicott turnovers.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday as they play their home opener against Bates at 2:00 p.m. in Morrell Gymnasium.
