BANGOR, Maine - The Bowdoin field hockey team returned to the win column on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 non-conference win over Husson University.
The second-ranked Polar Bears improve to 7-1 on the season, after suffering their first loss of 2014 last Saturday. The Eagles drop to 4-6, falling to Bowdoin for the tenth consecutive time.
All three Bowdoin goals came in the opening half of play. Adrienne O'Donnell started the Polar Bears off with goal just 3:50 into the matchup off the feed from Kimmy Ganong. Ganong tallied a goal of her own just over 11 minutes later coming from Rachel Kennedy. With under a minute to play in the first half Kennedy dished another pass, this time to Liz Znamierowski, for the team's third goal of the game.
Bowdoin outshot the Eagles 35-4 through 70 minutes of play and held a 25-1 edge in corner opportunities. Hannah Gartner stopped a single shot in net for Bowdoin, with Mettler Growney pitching in with a defensive save to preserve the shutout. Kaitlin Dolloff made 11 saves for the Eagles with a defensive effort by Melissa Souza to limit the Polar Bears offense.
Bowdoin travels to Hamilton for a 12:00 p.m. game on Saturday afternoon, the Polar Bears will continue on to Williams for a matchup on Sunday.
