White Supplies Men's Soccer with a Pair of Second Half Goals to Top Trinity

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Sam White scored a pair of second half goals as the Bowdoin men's soccer team defeated Trinity College 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears pick up their second conference win, and fifth victory overall, to improve to 5-3-0 (2-3-0 NESCAC). Trinity falls to 4-3-1 and 1-3-1 in NESCAC action.

Despite outshooting the Bantams 10-2 in the opening half, and forcing four saves by keeper Domenic Quade, the Polar Bears were unable to convert and break the 0-0 deadlock. Just under ten minutes into the second half, White converted on a feed from Andrew Jones. Collecting the pass off Jones' back heel, White Burried a shot in the top right corner to give Bowdoin the 1-0 edge. Doubling the Polar Bears lead in the 75th minute, White headed a rebound off an initial shot by Eric Goitia to put Bowdoin on top 2-0.

Stevie Van Siclen played all 90 minutes in net for Bowdoin and made a pair of saves for his first collegiate shutout. Quade stopped six shots for Trinity. Each team earned five corner kicks during the game, but Bowdoin held a 17-9 edge in shots.

Bowdoin hits the road for an in-state matchup against Southern Maine on October 6 at 4:00 p.m. Trinity hosts Wheaton on October 7, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
