Women's Soccer Shuts Out Colby, Will Host NESCAC Quarterfinal

WATERVILLE, Maine – Maggie Godley scored twice to lead the Bowdoin women's soccer team to its seventh conference win by shutting out Colby 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears, ranked fifth in New England, improve to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play, while the Mules fall to 6-7-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the NESCAC. Bowdoin improves to 38-1-5 all-time against Colby and secured a home NESCAC quarterfinal game on Saturday, November 1.

Godley put away her first goal of the game at 11:34 of the first half off the feed from Jamie Hofstetter. Hofstetter pushed a short pass to Godley in the middle and she immediately hit a high shot that got past Colby goalie Emily Brook.

Godley added her second of the game at 48:36 on an unassisted score. With Colby pushing for a score late, Eliza Nitzan made it 3-0 at 88:48 off a second assist from Hofstetter.

Bridget McCarthy stopped six shots for the Bowdoin shutout. Brook made 11 saves for the Mules.

Bowdoin returns to action on Tuesday afternoon in their regular season finale against Tufts. The Polar Bears and Jumbos kick off at 3:00 p.m. with NESCAC postseason seeding on the line.
