Ephs Shutout Men's Soccer in Sunday Matchup

Box Score

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. The Williams men's soccer team used a goal in each have to clinch the Senior Day win and defeat Bowdoin 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Ephs improve to 7-4-1 (5-2-0 NESCAC) after shutting on the Polar Bears (7-4-0, 3-4-0 NESCAC) and snapping Bowdoin's five game win-streak.

Bowdoin had the game's first chance just six minutes in, as Thomas Henshall forced a diving save out from keeper Christian Alcorn with a shot to the right side of the goal. The Ephs broke through the Bowdoin defense in the 30th minute sparked by Tom Young making a run down the left side, and crossing a hard low pass from the endline.  His ball ricocheted off a couple defenders and fell to Bahr-de Stefano, who pounced on the chance and slotted the ball home in the far corner to give the Ephs a 1-0 lead.

The Polar Bears nearly tied the game midway through the second half as a long ball from the right-hand side found Nick DiStefano, who fired a header on goal. The Ephs extended their lead in the 83rd minute as Zach Grady converted on his penalty kick to put Williams ahead 2-0.

Alcorn made four stops in net for the Ephs to earn the shutout, while Stevie Van Siclen made seven saves for Bowdoin in 90 minutes of action. The Ephs outshot Bowdoin 14-11, but the Polar Bears held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.

Bowdoin returns home for another NESCAC matchup on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. against Connecticut College.
